Dr. Catherine Phillips

Associate Professor, Psychology

Dr. Catherine “Catie” Phillips is returning to St. Mary’s, as she taught for us sessionally just over a decade ago. She comes to us from Northwest Vista College in San Antonio, Texas, but completed her degrees at the University of British Columbia (Okanagan Campus) and the University of Calgary. Dr. Phillips’ most recent research is in children’s understanding of antonymy and embodied cognition in adults, but it is in her 14 years of university teaching—what she recognizes to be her calling—that she has honed what it means to serve students in the ways our mission, vision, and values celebrate. Dr. Phillips truly understands and embraces a small Liberal Arts environment like St. Mary’s: one that she knows to be a family of caring. She nurtures both students and colleagues, the latter of which is evidenced in her many contributions to University service.
